Although the origin of the Peacock Chair has been largely debated, it's believed to have originated in Asia, in particular the Philippines hence why it is sometimes referred to as the Manila Chair. A lot of the modern reproductions are also still manufactured in this area and shipped to the UK before starting life as home furnishings or in our case, as beautiful props for a wedding prop hire company in Dorset.
The 70's was a key time for Peacock Chairs and you often would see them used in album covers featuring a shot of the artist sitting on the throne-like wicker chair, like a king or queen. The Peacock Chair album cover was everywhere!
Now the Peacock Chair is having another long overdue revival and although this boho statement piece has been floating around wedding trends for the past few years it still doesn’t seem to be going away any time soon. If anything we are getting asked for them more and they are quickly becoming the must-have piece for wedding decoration, event styling and prop hire this year and likely beyond.
We are lucky enough to own 5 Peacock Chairs for hire, that's how popular they are right now! One is a beautiful vintage 1970's chair and the other four are matching modern reproductions so can be used in pairs or grouped together for seating areas. Hire a vintage rug, pampas grass and a few side tables and you have a fantastic boho seating area for your guests to relax in.
Another way to use them on your wedding day is for the wedding breakfast with the Peacock Chairs making a great sweetheart table.
We also love to see them featured at important moments of the wedding day and especially love seeing couples sit in them during readings or to sign the register at the ceremony.
Use our matching chairs to create this look. We often like to add a little dressing of foliage around the large chair back. Check out our chairs here https://www.winterbornehireandstyling.co.uk/furniture-collection/a-pair-of-peacock-chairs
